Left shoulder dislocation for Robles
The Mariners announced today that they have recalled OF Dominic Canzone from Triple-A Tacoma and placed OF Victor Robles on the 10-day IL with a dislocated left shoulder.
Shoulder dislocations have a wide range of outcomes, depending on things like the severity of the damage suffered, such as whether or not there’s tissue damage such as a torn labrum. Further details about the extent of Robles’ injury aren’t known at this time, as the team was still sending him to imaging on Monday, so there is no timetable for his return as of yet. This story will be updated as new information is made available.
Luke Raley will take over the duties in right field for today’s game, and likely beyond, with Canzone serving as a fourth outfielder to start,
Canzone will get a chance to try to stick in Seattle after bouncing back and forth between Triple-A and the big league club since being acquired in 2023 as part of the Paul Sewald trade with Arizona. Initially hailed as a contact-forward bat who wouldn’t strike out much, Canzone, like the rest of the 2024 Mariners, struggled mightily with strikeouts during his appearances for Seattle last season, causing the team to send him to Triple-A permanently after the ascendence of Victor Robles. Now the 27-year-old outfielder gets another chance to show he can bring his contact skills to a team that isn’t striking out as often as the 2024 team—yet—but still has a ways to go towards improving in that department.
Canzone comes to Seattle fresh off a two-home run game in a losing effort by the Rainiers yesterday, and on a string of nice games to start his season in Tacoma, including a pair of three-hit games in the last series. The Mariners will hope that string continues up I-5 into Seattle.
