New seasons bring new hope, at least temporarily
Well, readers, it turns out I was straight-up blowing hot air last week when I was telling you how great the new season was going to be. I really tried to be upbeat and hopeful, and where did that get us? Exactly nowhere. The Mariners look pretty much the same as they did last year. Hopefully, they are just knocking the rust off for now, but I have yet to see anything that would indicate this team is going to be dramatically different from 2024.
In that vein, last week, we had a few questions regarding the start of the new season. We asked if you thought new addition Rowdy “Adult Son” Tellez would stick on the rosters, and most of you were pretty bullish on his chances to stay on long term:

Kyle Thele
I think Rowdy brings a certain hoss first base energy that this team has missed in recent years, but overall, I agree. I think it’s unlikely he’ll make it to July. Who would you want the Mariners to pursue as the primary first baseman/DH? Let us know in the comments!
With Opening Day behind us, we can firmly see how superstitious this fanbase is. I asked you all if you thought Opening Day would be a predictor for the rest of the season, and I got a resounding no.

Kyle Thele
To be honest, I thought some of you would be more whimsical about baseball and a little more romantic, but I guess I’m mostly alone in that way of thinking. I guess it also doesn’t help that despite holding the best Opening Day record in AL history (30-19), and the best in MLB since 2005 (16-5), that hasn’t translated to playoff appearances.
Still, this season has had some shocks for us so far. Some players seem to have turned a new leaf and made some real strides, or maybe it’s just taking time to heal fully from an injury. Regardless, they seem to be adding a little life to this team. Maybe it is too early to be worried about the offense. Let us know below what you think of this week’s Mariners React.
