It’s Sunday, and if it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Links.
In Mariners news…
- Larry Stone briefly exited retirement to educate us all on the Mariners current tiebreaker situation. (Thread)
An interesting situation to watch with KC Royals in freefall (6 straight losses, just 2 games ahead of Seattle in WC). The #Mariners & Royals split their 6 games. The next tiebreaker is record within division. KC is 33-19 (.635), M’s are 27-18 (.600). Bad for M’s, right? (more)

- Adam Jude wrote about the Mariners offense and their simplified approach at the plate, and how it’s yielding big results.

Around the league…
- I think this Elly De La Cruz fella might be pretty good.
Elly De La Cruz is the first shortstop in MLB history (min. 50% of games played at SS) with 25+ HR and 65+ SB in one season. pic.twitter.com/wp5w9Txogz

- A shocking roster move happened yesterday morning when the Nationals optioned shortstop CJ Abrams to Triple-A Rochester. Originally the team said the move was related to an “internal issue” until it was revealed that Abrams had spent all of Friday night in a casino, seemingly playing roulette.
- Probably not what Arenado would’ve expected when he was traded.
Nolan Arenado has won more postseason games as a Colorado Rockie (1) than as a St. Louis Cardinal (0). Tough scene https://t.co/ulVay3wUYH

Nick’s pick…
- Caitlyn Clark was quick to give credit to play-by-play broadcasters everywhere when asked about the TikTok of her calling a Phillies game from her hotel room.
Caitlin Clark, on the TikTok of her play-by-play for the MLB game: “I’ve kind of been following the Phillies, so I kinda know some of their players… I messed up a few times, but that’s a hard gig! I was out of breath and exhausted… shoutout to all the commentators out there.” pic.twitter.com/quDNTfHZCy
