Recapping an eventful day in baseball.
Good morning friends! Yesterday was a busy day in baseball, with the deadline to add players to 40-man rosters to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft passing in the afternoon. Let’s get you caught up on that and other news you may have missed.
In Mariners news…
- In case you missed it, the Mariners helped their old pals in Tampa with a roster crunch, re-acquiring young infielder Austin Shenton for cash considerations.
- Shannon Drayer made her case for why the Mariners should not trade a starting pitcher this offseason.
- This is better than I would have thought it would be!

Around the league…
- Steven Vogt of the Guardians and Pat Murphy of the Brewers were named the 2024 Managers of the Year.
- Right-handers Paul Skenes of the Pirates and Luís Gil of the Yankees were honored as the 2024 Rookies of the Year.
- The New York Mets acquired outfielder José Siri from the Rays in exchange for reliever Eric Orze.
- Evan Drellich at The Athletic reported that Major League Baseball is planning to overhaul its national television broadcasting apparatus come 2028, with direct implications for how the Mariners will broadcast games in the future (even if the exact shape of that is as-yet unknown.) ($)
- 12 out of the 13 players who were tendered a Qualifying Offer declined it — the only player who took it was Reds starting pitcher Nick Martinez.
