Unlucky number 13
Last night’s brutal loss got a little more brutal today, as the team announced Ryan Bliss is headed to the IL with a biceps tear. The Mariners now bring a beleaguered bullpen into a bullpen day start, with Luis F. Castillo (The Pebble) making today’s start; meanwhile, the Astros have their #2, Hunter Brown. It doesn’t look great for them to win their first series of the year, guys.

News:
More bad injury news for the Mariners: Ryan Bliss is headed to the IL with a biceps tear. Leo Rivas has been recalled to take his place. Additionally, Jesse Hahn was rewarded for his heroic effort last night by being DFA’d; hopefully he clears waivers and can come back to the team, but also, he’s shown he’s deserving of an opportunity elsewhere.
In happier news, Matt Brash threw to two minor-league hitters today (Milkar Perez and Andrew Miller, down from High-A Everett). “I thought he looked really good, good velocity on the fastball, slider looked good. I know he’s anxious and I know he’s ready, so really good to see him out there today,” said Dan Wilson.
Captain’s Log:
Dan Wilson on Ryan Bliss’s injury:
“It’s a really tough break for Ryan. I think it shows a lot of heart—he played most of the game with it yesterday—it shows you a lot about what’s inside of him, the character that he has. It’s a tough break. But Ryan has such a great attitude, and he’s ready to get after it, get back and get healthy, and that’s a great attitude to start with.”
