Who will win? Who will be the series MVP? Will Ohtani hit a 500 foot dinger? Will Rob Manfred say something stupid? Let’s hit the polls and take some guesses!
Hello and welcome back to FanPost Friday. After a lengthy break between series, the much-vaunted World Series match up between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers starts tonight at Dodger Stadium. The marquee nature of the showdown is a huge win for MLB given the history and legacy of the two teams who once shared a city and have since come to represent a few very different fan demographics. It also features some of the most talent players MLB has to offer with both teams fielding near All-Star Game-caliber of stacked rosters. Dave Sims is pumped, as are many baseball fans from all over the country and world.
The Seattle Mariners’ ownership group will never go to the lengths to spend as much money as the Dodgers and Yankees ownership groups have done in the last year, let alone the last 15 years or so, whatever demarcation you want to use for the current era of player evaluation, development, and stats. But you know, last year the series was the Texas Rangers versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cleveland almost made it this year. The Rays almost beat the Dodgers in 2020 for the bite size World Series championship that season. It’s not impossible for a penny-pinching or mid-market spending team to make, but it does feel a lot more difficult and it seems to require a shit load more luck than just spending more money than god on as many great players as you can get.
Anyways, let’s hit the polls and make some World Series predictions, shall we? Much like the premise and tagline of Alien vs. Predator, “Whoever wins, we lose.”
All right, have a good weekend! Enjoy some high-stakes baseball and maybe some Halloween activities! Here, have this:
