Happy opening weekend!
Welcome to a brand new season of minor league baseball! If you’re unfamiliar with this series, we at LL provide a weekly recap of the minor league happenings within the Mariner farm system that encompasses each and every team associated with the organization. Though we only have the Rainiers playing currently, as soon as the rest of the leagues start up, you can expect our coverage to expand accordingly. It’s going to be a great year of prospect watching, Mariner fans. Here’s to the first step of our year long journey!
Tacoma Rainiers
3-0
Tacoma started the season strong with a sweep against Round Rock in a series that saw a variety of positives from some of the biggest prospect names in the system. It’s obviously incredibly early in the season, but this Rainiers team certainly looks the part of an excellent squad early.
The big names on this team are Cole Young, Harry Ford, Tyler Locklear, and Ben Williamson, and all four of them collected their first hits of the season over opening weekend, with Locklear showing the best of the group. Launching a homer and batting .500 to start things off, Locklear is looking to rebound after a tumultuous 2024 season. He’s always had the tools offensively to make it work as a first baseman, but he’s going to have to revert back to the hitter he was before his major league debut. I’m bullish on his return to form, but only time will tell whether or not he’ll get there.

Ben Williamson has knocked a few singles around at the plate, however his defense has already produced some highlight reel plays in just a handful of games. Check out this web gem from Sunday’s game below.

Young and Ford are both much younger than their aforementioned teammates and will need some time to fully assimilate to the PCL, however each has held their own thus far and will be closely monitored as they continue to adjust to the level.

The pitching has notoriously been Tacoma’s bugaboo, however in the tiny sample size of games thus far, they’ve been great! Allowing just four runs over the weekend, starters Logan Evans, Casey Lawrence, and Luis F. Castillo all put their bullpen in a good position to win the ballgame, and the arms in the stable did just that. Site favorite Casey Legumina has shown well thus far and remains our top choice for bullpen arm when the time for a reshuffle the major league roster comes.
Final line for Logan Evans in his Triple-A debut: 3.2IP, 5H, 2R, BB, 4K, 61 pitches, 42 strikes. Not a lot of hard contact off Evans. pic.twitter.com/NCxlFhllQV

(His final line included only 1 ER on the day)
This week’s recap was brief, but starting next week we’ll have a nearly full slate of games to cover with loads of the top prospects in the system all hitting the diamond on Friday night. I couldn’t be more excited to kick off this 2025 minor league season and appreciate you coming along for the ride. Minor league baseball is back!
