The Mariners’ opponents didn’t sit idly this winter. Here’s where they stand.
The 2025 Seattle Mariners have a great shot at a division title this year. The American League West is up for grabs, with more superstars headed out of the division in the past couple seasons than entering it, however they’ve still failed to capture the throne. That could change this year, but to do so they’ll need to overcome the Houston Astros, reigning title-winners and rule-breaking bullies of the division for nearly a decade. The Texas Rangers will once again be potent, looking to balance things out after a disappointing follow-up to their 2023 World Series title. Over in California, the Sacramento Athletics are looking to play through their failson owner’s mismanagement, with an infusion of cash to avoid legal consequences that nonetheless will improve their roster. Lastly, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have outfitted manager Ron Washington with a collection of ballplayers who have several of the characteristics of big leaguers.
The series will come in four parts for each ballclub.
- Pitching – how do the rotation and bullpens stack up for each club?
- Position Players – what’s the lineup looking like, along with the bench depth?
- Prospects – The future is promising for the Mariners based on the evaluations of their farm system, but will that be an advantage or something their rivals can counter?
- 2025 Prognosis – A side-by-side matchup of each opponent against the Mariners, along with a condensed version of our “If It All Goes Right/If It All Goes Wrong” for each club.
Know thy enemy, and go M’s.
