The Seahawks just lost nearly all the name recognition they once had, and now are connected to an Aaron Rodgers rumor, setting up ‘25 to be a weird one.
John Schneider is on one, man.
The GM of the Seattle Seahawks has spent the weekend alternating between signing defensive players to three-year extensions and removing the final three household names from the offensive side of the ball. Jaxon Smith-Njigba now stands largely alone.
He’s claimed to be working in the best interest of the entire organization, from top to bottom. From Jody Allen, all the way to you, the devoted fans.
Which begs the question: Is this the type of rebuild the fans actually wanted?
Especially if they go and do this:
#Seahawks GM John Schneider said this: “The thing to understand here is: Our responsibility to (team chair) Jody Allen, to the 12s, first and foremost is doing what’s absolutely best for the organization.”
Then he did this:
And next: Aaron Rodgers? https://t.co/pDVPR8oh66

A reasonable person could defend that Geno Smith was a top-12 quarterback in the NFL and the Seahawks were one yard short of making the playoffs in 2024.
Ryan Grubb’s (and the offensive line’s) specialty (failing to convert on the ground on both 3rd and 4th-and-1) kept Seattle from winning the first game, and ultimately the division over the Los Angeles Rams.

Now, Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, and Geno Smith have been jettisoned while they re-signed Jarran Reed and Ernest Jones.
Defense good, offense bad?
But furthermore, is he actually going to run the defense back and grab Aaron Rodgers?
The NFL is a business, I get it. Money makes most of the decisions, and contract extensions were at odds with Metcalf and Smith, decisions were made, life goes on. There’s also much that could be said about the philosophy of team-building, of evaluations regarding draft picks, third contracts, and the like.
But a very real thing just happened: the Seahawks became pretty nameless, on offense at least. Hundreds of hours of star power and fun memories just walked out the door, for a team that was far closer to making the playoffs than getting a top-5 pick. This is going to be a tangibly different team to watch next season. It will be weird.
And then there’s the three directions they could take at quarterback. Is Seattle tanking for next year? Are they signing someone they hope can breakout like Smith or Sam Darnold? Or is this Aaron Rodgers thing real, thinking he keeps the team in contention right now?
So, Schneider’s acting in the “best” interest of the team, including the fans.
Is this team one you’re excited to watch next season? With Aaron Rodgers at the controls?
