Let’s relive the Seahawks’ 10 wins from Mike Macdonald’s rookie season as head coach.
Normally, winning 10 games in a regular season is enough to qualify for the NFL playoffs. That was not the case for the 2024 Seattle Seahawks, who were beaten out by the Los Angeles Rams via strength of victory tiebreaker.
Still, 10 wins is 10 wins and today’s open thread is all about naming your favorite victory from Mike Macdonald’s first season as head coach. The criteria for your favorite win is completely up to you, but…
…I want to be very clear that some snarky statement like “Ryan Grubb getting fired” or “Waiving Dee Williams” are neither acceptable nor particularly appropriate answers. This thread is specifically to celebrate the Seahawks’ actual game wins.
I’d say the most complete performance was Seattle’s 30-18 win over the Arizona Cardinals, which put the Seahawks at 8-5. Not only did the Seahawks have a comfortable win that effectively ended Arizona’s playoff hopes, but they escaped that cursed stadium without injury.
And yet, my favorite Seahawks win is the most obvious one.

This win has probably aged poorly given the 49ers collapsed to 6-11 and were just a bad football team by season’s end. I don’t care. Six straight losses to this group became as insufferable as I imagine 10 straight losses from 2013-2018 felt to 49ers fans. Geno Smith had never beaten San Francisco and it looked like Zach Charbonnet’s failed 4th and 1 conversion would’ve resulted in Seattle’s playoff hopes dying on the vine.
In terms of quality of opponent, this wasn’t Smith’s greatest game-winning drive. However, in the moment, it was his signature drive.

The Seahawks could dream about the playoffs, while the 49ers crashed to last place. Smith wasn’t lying when he told the fans “night-night.”
