One of the most prominent quarterbacks in college football is heading for the NFL Draft this April.
After a second straight semifinal exit in the College Football Playoff, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is done with college.
Ewers, once the number one high school recruit in the country, has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He had the option of staying in college for another season, much like Penn State’s Drew Allar, but opted to head for the professional ranks.
After battling through injury for a good portion of 2024, Ewers finished the season with 31 touchdowns to 12 interceptions and just under 3,500 yards passing on 65.8% completion rate. Ewers missed two starts with a strained oblique early in the season and dealt with an ankle sprain toward the end of the season.
Ewers won the Big XII Conference Championship MVP in 2023 after a record-setting 452 yards passing and 4 touchdowns against Oklahoma State. He had a fairly wide split in performance when playing ranked vs. unranked teams this season, and his lack of elite arm strength and mobility will almost certainly have him outside of Round 1.
Only Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward seem more likely than not to be drafted in the first round. It’s not like we have to go too far back into the history books to find a class so weak that only one quarterback (Kenny Pickett, 2022) was taken in the first round.
Ewers will most likely nevertheless be a Day 2 or Day 3 option and therefore someone who could be on the Seattle Seahawks’ radar for possible selection should they attempt to draft a quarterback this year.
