Bryant holding on to the starting role even in light of Jenkins’ activation from injured reserve could stir up interesting debates for the offseason.
The Seattle Seahawks climbed into first place in the NFC West by taking down the formerly division leading Arizona Cardinals 16-6 at Lumen Field in Week 12.
The Seahawks took over first place in part by (finally) turning to in house talent at several spots that had previously been occupied by free agent signings. It remains to be seen whether this is a new trend for the Hawks, but the on-field results in the last two weeks have been undeniable.
On offense four of five starting spots on the offensive line were filled by players drafted by the team since 2022. Specifically, Charles Cross and Abe Lucas were at the tackle spots, Olu Oluwatimi got the nod at center and Anthony Bradford started before giving way to Christian Haynes at right guard due to a knee injury suffered early on. The results weren’t always pretty, with Geno Smith often under pressure and sacked five times, but at the end of the day it was enough to come away with the victory.
On the other side of the ball, it was Coby Bryant and Tyrice Knight starting in place of the recently returned from injured reserve Rayshawn Jenkins and rather recently released Tyrel Dodson, respectively. The situation at safety bears watching, and should Bryant continue to perform at a high level, it could put Jenkins on the fast track to becoming a cap casualty for the second consecutive offseason.
When it came time for special teams to take the field, the group was paced by the trio of Drake Thomas, Jerrick Reed and Josh Ross with 18 snaps, with Jake Bobo (17) and Mike Morris (16) right on their tail.
And now it’s on to the New York Jets in Week 13.
