Midseason MVP, biggest surprise, and more awards for the 4-5 Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks are off for the week. The desire to get back to .500 is on hold for now. While we wait, let’s check in on the highlights and lowlights halfway through the 2024 season.
That’s right, it’s time for Seahawks Superlatives!
Best Individual Play
The halftime finisher to DK Metcalf.

This is fun because it highlights Geno Smith’s ability to make the best throws an NFL QB is capable of making.
The aggressiveness to have that route as an option with 30 seconds left in the half. The guts to attempt that throw at all. Smith rocketed the ball 41 yards in 1.6 seconds on an absolute rope.
Best “…WHAT?!” Moment
Sure, Saquon Barkley jumped over a guy backwards, but I’ve never seen anyone even think to attempt this, much less do it with precision like he practiced on younger brothers in the backyard just in case this moment arrived.

Biggest Disappointment
Right offensive line, man. That the team’s second draft pick in Christian Haynes can’t start over arguably the leakiest guard since the Internet was invented is annoying as all get out.
Defender: exists.
Anthony Bradford: here come enjoy this backfield sir please i insist https://t.co/bcOofEe5Qx— Tyler (@TylerjAlsin) October 28, 2024
This year – even more than Russell Wilson-led teams – is hard to tell what this team would look like with an adequate offensive line.
We’ve already covered how the Seahawks face 3rd-and-longest since 1980. Abe Lucas and George Fant have not been able to help, and the line crumbling is just elite on a play-by-play basis.
Biggest Surprise (celebratory)
Derick Hall.
This is an insane rep by Derick Hall. He’s driving Taylor Decker back with long arm at the end and has the strength to reach around, grab Jared Goff by the pads, and throw him to the ground. #Seahawks pic.twitter.com/7ceRpCfyiM

Hall was essentially invisible last year. That makes the jump to one of the best pass rushers on the team even more remarkable. Good players can become great; far less expected for non-effective players to become wildly effective. He and Boye Mafe are electric.
Also a big thanks to Hall for teaching us all that the horse collar penalty does not exist on a quarterback in the pocket.
Biggest Surprise (Regretfully)
There are a few options here. I have tried my best to stay within the lane of the most surprising unpleasant development. The offensive line is more unpleasant, but less of a surprise. The run defense is not a surprise, the defensive adjustment time period is not a surprise.
I’m going with a two-way tie between Jaxon Smith Njigba’s seven other games and Jake Bobo.
Tyler Lockett is close to the best version of a 32 year-old receiver with limited explosiveness left that you could hope for. Therefore, I really figured this team with Ryan Grubb and Geno Smith’s summer comments were going to do….anything, really with wide receivers two through four.
Smith-Njigba’s Week 2 against New England and Week 9 against the Los Angeles Rams were epic. Last Sunday he was one of the three best players on the field. If it was doubted before, it is no longer: JSN possesses both WR1 and deep-threat capabilities.
The surprise is that this offense is apparently incapable of utilizing more than one top target per game. In seven other contests, Smith-Jigba has 1 performance with over 55 yards. He’s gone under 40 yards four times.
Meanwhile, Jake Bobo had already racked up 140 yards and 2 TD by this point last season. To date, he has nine receptions, failing to record a catch in four games this year.
4 JSN reps that stood out to me:
1) Geno Smith arm angle TD. Dime.
2) Geno is hot. JSN slot fade win. Dime.
3) Motion helps JSN win at line. Dime.
4) Motion into screen. JSN breaks tackles. pic.twitter.com/5dq3aNbTjQ— Hayden Winks (@HaydenWinks) November 5, 2024
Midseason MVP:
The answer is Geno Smith. After that it’s DK Metcalf. Both are chalk answers. The only people who don’t suggest as much are the fans who want to bench Geno and trade DK. At this point, there’s not much argument left to be had. Both players are incredibly valuable to this team.
One more for good measure-
This is a MASTERCLASS in Football IQ from Geno Smith & DK Metcalf

Here’s hoping to a positive record in the second half!
Go Hawks.
