Jobe impressed in his three games as a practice squad call-up.
Josh Jobe has turned his practice squad elevations into a spot on the active roster.
Jobe was signed to the 53-man roster on Monday, occupying the vacant spot left by the surprise decision to waive starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson. With no practice squad elevations left, Jobe needed to be signed to the active roster in order to play for Seattle again this season.
Who is Josh Jobe?
The 26-year-old cornerback went undrafted out of the University of Alabama, which knows a thing or two about producing high-level players on both sides of the ball. Jobe was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, making the regular season roster during roster cuts. He played in 28 games over two seasons in Philadelphia, with only 12 snaps on defense as a rookie before jumping all the way up to 240 snaps the following year.
When did Josh Jobe join the Seahawks?
After getting waived by the Eagles this past August, the Seahawks signed Jobe to the practice squad on Aug. 29.
What are Josh Jobe’s stats with the Seahawks?
In three games as a practice squad call-up, Jobe has recorded 17 tackles, 4 passes defensed, and his first career interception came off of Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen. While Jobe played a lot of special teams snaps in Philadelphia, his Seahawks snaps are split 165 to 14 in favor of defense.
Jobe has committed a couple of penalties, including a drive-extending pass interference on Cooper Kupp against the Los Angeles Rams that led to a touchdown, but he’s hardly alone given Seattle’s penalty proclivity.
PFF does not grade Jobe highly at all, putting him at just 50.7 in coverage.
What does Josh Jobe’s signing mean for the Seahawks cornerback group?
After getting called up due to injuries to Riq Woolen, Tre Brown, and Artie Burns prior to Week 7’s win over the Atlanta Falcons, Jobe has seemingly earned his way into the starting lineup over Brown. It’s hard to make the case for Brown being on the team in 2025 if he’s losing his starting spot to someone who was on the practice squad over the past few months.
Rookie cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett made one start in Tre Brown’s absence but has been inactive over the last two games. It’s not particularly likely he’ll crack the lineup again any time soon.
It looks like it’ll be Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, and Josh Jobe as the main men moving forward.
