After losing Bobby Wagner in free agency to the Washington Commanders, the Seattle Seahawks moved quickly to address that position group.
It was reported this Saturday that Seattle is signing veteran linebacker Jerome Baker to a one-year, $7 million contract. His agency has since confirmed the deal.
Baker was released by the Miami Dolphins earlier this month in a move that saved the front office $9.8 million in cap space. They were open to a return, but clearly the two sides couldn’t agree to a deal.
The Dolphins selected Baker in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He has 587 career tackles, 22.5 sacks, 21 pass break-ups, six forced fumbles and five interceptions.
Baker will be an intriguing piece for Seattle’s defense. Head coach Mike Macdonald’s whole philosophy is predicated on “winning each down.”
“People ask about our blitz rates and all that, that’s not important to me; it’s about putting yourself in positions to win the down, affecting the quarterback, putting your guys in position to have success,” Macdonald said.
Replacing a legendary coach like Pete Carroll won’t be easy, but Macdonald is a well-respected defensive mind.
