Lose six home games but finish with a winning record? What a Seahawks stat.
The Seattle Seahawks are clinging to slim playoff hopes even after their 6-3 win over the Chicago Bears, but if nothing else, you cannot help but praise Mike Macdonald for this team’s ability to win on the road.
In a season in which the Seahawks were an uncharacteristically poor 3-6 at home, the only reason they’ve still got a fighting chance at the playoffs is how they’ve fared on the road. Yes, the road schedule has included the 3-12 New England Patriots, 4-11 New York Jets, and 4-12 Bears, but they’re still 6-1 away from Lumen Field. This is only the third time the Seahawks have ever won at least six regular season games, joining the 2013 Super Bowl champions and the 2019 squad, which holds the franchise record at 7-1 on the road.
Seattle’s latest road win clinched a third straight winning season, with the hopes of a 10-win season (and a division title, if results are favorable) to come in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Rams. Win, lose, or draw, the Seahawks are officially the first team in NFL history to clinch a winning overall record despite losing at least six home games.
We brought up this subject earlier in the week and while it’s a novelty stat more than anything, it’s about as Seahawky an obscure statistic as you could find. A team once known for home dominance now can’t win at home but can win regularly on the road at a level that has kept Seattle above .500 for the rest of the year.
Mike Macdonald’s next task: Getting the Seahawks to win home games again so that winning this many road games is a bonus toward a No. 1 seed, not fighting for a playoff spot.
