Uchenna Nwosu is officially on injured reserve, while Artie Burns is back on the active roster.
With just hours before kickoff, the Seattle Seahawks made several transactions to reshape the 53-man roster, something they’ve not needed to do for much of the season up to this point. None of these moves is a big surprise, although one of the removals is worth paying extra attention to for what it could mean next week.
Players removed
Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu is going to injured reserve with his thigh injury. Mike Macdonald said there’s a good chance he’s back before the end of the regular season, which means this is not a “welcome back as soon as his minimum four-game stint on IR is over” situation. It’s a serious thigh injury that could keep him out 6-10 weeks.
Guard/tackle McClendon Curtis was waived and will presumably revert to the practice squad once he clears waivers. Burns’ promotion to the active roster leaves the Seahawks with one vacant spot on the practice squad. It’s worth noting that George Fant is eligible to come off of IR as early as next week against the Atlanta Falcons.
Players added
For the second year in a row, cornerback Artie Burns is on the active roster after starting out on the practice squad. Riq Woolen’s absence, however short-term it figures to be, still leaves the Seahawks thin at corner, and Burns provides a veteran presence. Having begun his career as an outside corner, he’s transitioned into more of a slot defender.
Nose tackle Cameron Young is on the active roster for the first time this season. The second-year player out of Mississippi State started the season on the PUP list with a knee injury and is now finally able to play. Young provides another big body on the interior of the defensive line, even when Byron Murphy II returns from his hamstring injury.
