After moving on from DK Metcalf the Seahawks needed a speedy receiver to stretch defenses, and here’s how much cap space MVS will cost them in 2025.
In the wake of trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Seattle Seahawks were in need of a speedy receiver who could stretch the field to open things up underneath for third year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and whoever else the Hawks would add to the position group.
As the majority of fans know, the ‘whoever else’ ended up becoming All-Pro and Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, giving the Hawks a formidable duo for defenses to try to stop in the underneath. Of course, the underneath is only as open as a deep threat can make it, something the Seahawks were lacking until they agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Now, thanks to Brady Henderson of ESPN, it’s known how much cap space it will take the Seahawks to have MVS around.
Per OTC, the base value of the Seahawks’ one-year deal with WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is $4M. It’s a $1.5M signing bonus, $2.245M base salary, up to $255K in per-game bonuses. Cap number should be $3.955M. The initial reports were “up to $5.5M,” implying $1.5M in incentives.

As broken down in the tweet, the contract is as follows:
- Base salary: $2.245M
- Signing bonus: $1.5M
- Per game roster bonuses: $255k ($15k per game, of which 14 are considered LTBE and will count against the cap for a total of $210k during the offseason)
- Total cap hit for 2025 through offseason and into the season: $3.955M
The way per game roster bonuses are treated under the collective bargaining agreement, since MVS appeared in 14 games during the 2024 season, 14 of the $15k in per game roster bonuses will count against the cap heading into the season.
Should MVS appear in more than 14 games during the 2025 season, the team would recognize a $15k cap hit in the week immediately following MVS’ 15th, 16th and 17th games. That means that if he stays healthy and plays in all 17 games the cap hit would balloon by a whopping $45k all the way from $3.955M to $4M.
