Frazier was previously head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.
The Dallas Cowboys are looking for a new head coach after not renewing Mike McCarthy’s contract. Among the early candidates is Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier.
Following an initial report from Todd Archer, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero wrote on Wednesday that Frazier is scheduled to meet with the Cowboys on Monday. The Cowboys are also scheduled to interview former New York Jets head coach later this week.
Frazier coached the Minnesota Vikings from 2010 (as an interim) until 2013, reaching the playoffs in the 2012 season. Since his lone stint as NFL head coach, Frazier has worked as a defensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills, as well as secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens. Frazier held the AHC title with the Bills from 2020 until 2022 and assumed the same position under Mike Macdonald in Seattle.
It must be said that Saleh and Frazier immediately would satisfy the NFL’s Rooney Rule requirement of interviewing at least two external minority candidates for head coaching vacancies.
In case you’re wondering about potential draft compensation in the event the Cowboys hire Frazier as head coach, the Seahawks would not be eligible for two third-round compensatory picks. Frazier has only been with the Seahawks for one season and not the minimum requirement of two seasons. This is why Dave Canales, who is of Mexican descent, didn’t yield any comp picks for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he was named Carolina Panthers head coach after one season as Buccaneers offensive coordinator.
