It’s hard to imagine a trade going much worse for a team than it did for the Denver Broncos.
After Wednesday’s news that the team would be benching quarterback Russell Wilson for the final two games (while still in playoff contention), ESPN’s Adam Schefter decided to look back on the details of the deal which swapped Russ and fourth-round pick Eyioma Uwazurike for:
- Drew Lock
- Noah Fant
- Shelby Harris
- Charles Cross (first-round pick)
- Boye Mafe (second-round pick)
- Tyreke Smith (fifth-round pick)
- Devon Witherspoon (No. 5 overall pick)
- Derick Hall (No. 37 overall pick)
Fans couldn’t believe how lopsided the trade looks nearly two years later.
“On top of the players and picks involved, the Broncos have also paid Russell Wilson $85M for less than two full seasons,” Field Yates added. “Assuming this it for Wilson in Denver, navigating the cap ramifications of his remaining contract is going to be – putting it generously – a major hurdle.”
“A REAL look back at the Seattle-Denver trade:” a user said.
“The new contract he signed before playing a snap for the Broncos has not even yet taken effect,” Ed Werder replied.
“A trade that will live in infamy,” Romi Bean tweeted.
“Seattle fleeced so hard it’s crazy.”
