The Seattle Seahawks reportedly added more quarterback depth on Thursday.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks are signing P.J. Walker. The 29-year-old would join his fourth NFL team since 2022.
Temple’s all-time passing leader started his career on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad without getting the chance to play. Walker joined the revived XFL in 2020 before making his way back to the NFL.
Walker won two starts for the Carolina Panthers in 2020 and 2021 before receiving a prolonged opportunity the following year. Replacing an injured Baker Mayfield, he posted a 78.0 quarterback rating with 731 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in six games.
The former undrafted free agent nearly led an epic Week 8 comeback over the Atlanta Falcons when connecting with D.J. Moore on a Hail Mary touchdown. Walker finished with 317 passing yards, but the Panthers lost in overtime after missing what would have been the game-winning extra point.
Although Walker signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears last year, he didn’t make their 53-man roster out of training camp. He instead joined the Cleveland Browns, who traded Joshua Dobbs and released Kellen Mond.
Injuries to Deshaun Watson pressed Walker into early playing time. He relinquished five interceptions to just 674 passing yards and one touchdown in 111 attempts.
Walker eventually took a seat behind Joe Flacco, who led the Browns to the playoffs with a resurgent stretch.
The Seahawks lost backup quarterback Drew Lock in free agency, but they acquired Sam Howell from the Washington Commanders as a possible second-stringer to Geno Smith.
