The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly pursuing potential upgrades for their offensive line.
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Seahawks are interested in Laken Tomlinson and Cody Whitehair. Both Pro Bowl guards were released as cap casualties earlier this offseason.
Tomlinson would give Seattle a remarkably durable option. The nine-year pro has not missed a game since Week 1 of the 2017 season.
Despite his stable presence, the New York Jets released Tomlinson after their linemen otherwise struggled to stay healthy in 2023. The former first-round pick hadn’t played up to his 2021 Pro Bowl standards, which led to a three-year, $40 million deal after five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
Whitehair, who made the Pro Bowl as a center in 2017, has played 124 games in eight seasons with the Chicago Bears. He played all 17 games at left guard last season but came off the bench for the first time in his career.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson said last Tuesday that the Seahawks could sign an offensive lineman “within the next week or so.” He identified Tomlinson and Whitehair as two possible fits.
New head coach Mike Macdonald called the unit “a work in progress” when claiming that they’re not finished adding to the position “by any stretch of the imagination.”
The Seahawks have signed center Nick Harris and veteran offensive tackle George Fant this offseason. However, they’ve also lost some linemen from their 2023 roster.
Damien Lewis signed with the Carolina Panthers after starting 16 games for Seattle in each of the last two seasons. Phil Haynes, who started eight games last year, remains a free agent.
