Report: Seahawks hosting Senior Bowl and projected first-round EDGE rusher

It’s impossible to have too many EDGE rushers in the NFL, and Mike Macdonald and John Schneider are reportedly set to interview a first round prospect with tantalizing athleticism.

The Seattle Seahawks do not appear to have a pressing need at EDGE, after working out a restructured contract with Uchenna Nwosu and adding free agent Demarcus Lawrence. Add in 2022 second round pick Boye Mafe and 2023 second rounder Derrick Hall, and the position appears full of both experience and upside potential for 2025.

However, with Mafe entering the final year of his rookie contract and Lawrence on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a season in which he missed 13 games due to injury, it’s never a bad thing to have a ton of depth at a key position. Add in the Mike Macdonald’s scheming to keep opposing quarterbacks guessing on where pressure is coming from, and it make sense the Seahawks could add an EDGE rusher as insurance in the 2025 NFL Draft.

To that end, on Tuesday Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network reported that Seattle is set to host one of the most interesting EDGE rusher prospects on a pre-draft visit.

Shemar Stewart has tantalizing athleticism, posting a perfect 10.00 RAS score as a defensive end, though he did not complete agility testing, meaning his athletic profile is incomplete. With that in mind, while Stewart’s athleticism shows up on tape, it did not necessarily show up in his production, as he was only able to convert the 79 pressures he created in into 4.5 sacks during his three seasons at Texas A&M.
