The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly cleaning house before free agency.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks will save $7 million by release tight end Will Dissly, It’s not their only notable cut Tuesday.
Pelissero also reported that Seattle will release Pro Bowl safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. The moves will shed approximately $34.5 million in cap space.
Seattle selected Dissly with the No. 120 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Washington. He’s registered 127 catches for 1,421 yards and 13 touchdowns in 72 career games.
Dissly received just 22 targets last season. While he didn’t play a crucial role in the offense, Seattle has two other tight ends hitting free agency next week.
Noah Fant, acquired in the Russell Wilson trade two years ago, caught 32 of 43 targets. Colby Parkinson also garnered 25 receptions for the second straight season.
The Seahawks look poised to start fresh under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald. Yet while the offense can still lean on wide receivers DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the secondary will look far different without Adams and Diggs.
Seattle cutting Adams wasn’t too shocking, as the 2019 All-Pro has played only 10 games in the last two seasons. He would have received $16.5 million after garnering a 54.9 grade last season on Pro Football Focus.
Diggs, on the other hand, has spent years as a Seahawks mainstay. He hasn’t missed a game in the last four seasons, which included three Pro Bowl nods.
But he didn’t perform up to his high standards in 2023, allowing 12.4 yards per catch and a 95.4 opposing passer rating in coverage.
Spotrac now estimates the Seahawks possess $32.8 million in cap space eight days before free agency officially begins.
