Former All-Pro running back Marshawn Lynch will not face prison time as a result of a DUI that he was charged with.
According to David Charns of KLAS, Lynch has accepted a plea deal for what initially charged as a misdemeanor DUI. Under the agreement, the charge will be lowered to “reckless driving” if Lynch completes a series of requirements including community service. He will also pay a fine for a little over $1,000.
“Ahead of the start of a scheduled trial on Wednesday, Lynch accepted a plea deal for the misdemeanor DUI. As part of the deal, the charge will be lowered to reckless driving if Lynch completes DUI school, a victim impact panel, an alcohol evaluation, 200 hours of community service and stays out of trouble for a year, documents said,” Charns wrote.
The DUI came as a result of an incident in Las Vegas in 2022 when he was found sleeping in his car. A breath test was reportedly conducted by police officers and determined that he was over the legal limit at the time.
In a statement, Lynch’s attorneys Richard Shonfeld and David Chesnoff said that he has not been convicted of any offense and has agreed to complete “certain requirements” in order to close the case as a reckless driving offense.
“Mr. Lynch has not been convicted of any offense at his time,” they said in a statement. “He has agreed to complete certain requirements which will result in this case being closed as a reckless driving traffic offense.”
Lynch retired after the 2019 season.
