Pete Carroll admitted Wednesday that Jamal Adams may not return this season.
Per the Tacoma News Tribune‘s Gregg Bell, the Seattle Seahawks head coach told reporters that Adams is “battling” through a knee injury. The All-Pro safety will sit out Wednesday’s practice, and the team doesn’t know when he’ll return.
“Pete Carroll says Seahawks ‘have acknowledged’ the possibility of shutting down Jamal Adams (knee) for the rest of the season, but he and they don’t want to do that right now,” Bell wrote.
Jamal Adams is still hurting with his knee and #Seahawks are trying to “quiet that down,” Pete Carroll says. One day at a time. Won’t practice today. Team’s not sure when he will play again. “He’s battling.”

Adams wasn’t at Lumen Field for Seattle’s 20-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. He’s missed five games this season after tearing his left quadriceps tendon in Week 1 last year, an injury that prompted him to consider retirement.
After missing two games in three seasons with the Jets, Adams has played 35 of 65 games (postseason included) for the Seahawks.
Adams also hasn’t performed at an elite level when healthy this season. Pro Football Focus has assigned the 28-year-old his lowest grade (54.9) since the site began grading in 2017.
The three-time Pro Bowler has 48 tackles, two passes defended, and two quarterback hits in nine games. Per PFF, he’s missed 15 tackles and allowed a 122.1 passer rating in coverage.
Seattle snapped a four-game losing streak with a much-needed Week 15 win over Philadelphia. At 7-7, the Seahawks remain in the thick of a race for two NFC wild-card spots.
It remains undetermined if Adams can return for Sunday afternoon’s road game against the Tennessee Titans.
