The Seahawks (9-7) are out of playoff contention but can still end their season on a winning note against the resting Rams (10-6).
The Seattle Seahawks (9-7) are mathematically eliminated from postseason contention following a calamitous set of results (outside of their own win versus the Chicago Bears) in Week 17. Their final game of Mike Macdonald’s first season as Seahawks head coach will be against the NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams (10-6), winners of their last five.
With the Rams resting starters and the Seahawks intending to play theirs, it seems on paper like Seattle is poised to end the year on a winning note. There are contract incentives at stake for Geno Smith, as well as a franchise record on the line for Jaxon Smith-Njigba. We could see Leonard Williams become the first Seahawks player to get to 10 sacks since Frank Clark in 2018.
Ordinarily a 10-win season would get you into the playoffs, but that won’t be the case for the Seahawks should they prevail on Sunday. Still, it’s a chance to see the Seahawks one last time before a very interesting offseason. Savor it!
Last meeting
The Seahawks lost 26-20 in overtime to the Rams at home in Week 9. Geno Smith threw three touchdowns, three interceptions (including a critical pick-six), while Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught seven passes for 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Matthew Stafford threw the winning touchdown to Demarcus Robinson, who beat Riq Woolen downfield.
What’s at stake for the Seahawks?
Pride. Contract incentives. Franchise records. A 10th win for the first time since 2020. Actual playoff implications? Not this year, I’m afraid.
Odds
The Seahawks are a 6.5-point road favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook, with an over/under of 38.5 points. With the Rams resting starters, this is no shock.
