The Seattle Seahawks released Quandre Diggs amid other cap casualties Tuesday. He responded to the news like anyone else losing their job.
Diggs, who joined Seattle, wrote on social media that he’s “forever grateful.” He then referenced Friday with a joke about his release.
“Got fired on my day off,” Diggs wrote with a GIF of Ice Cub from the 1995 movie. “Damn.”
Diggs made three straight Pro Bowls with the Seahawks from 2020 to 2022. The safety tallied 324 tackles and 18 interceptions in 72 career games for the organization.
Yet after recording at least three picks in six consecutive seasons, Diggs settled for one in 2023. He also allowed a 103.9 passer rating in coverage with his lowest player grade (55.1) since 2016 on Pro Football Focus.
Seattle moved on before the final season of his three-year, $39 million contract. While assessed a $10.3 million dead cap hit, the Seahawks still cleared $11 million off their ledger by releasing the 31-year-old.
Diggs wasn’t the only Pro Bowl safety cut Tuesday. Seattle also parted ways with Jamal Adams following another injury-plagued season.
Including tight end Will Dissly, the Seahawks saved around $34.5 million in cap space before free agency starts next week. They’ll look to reload for Mike Macdonald, who replaces longtime head coach Pete Carroll following consecutive 9-8 seasons without Russell Wilson.
While getting fired is never fun, Diggs should find new employment soon after free agency opens for business on March 13.
