Artie Burns is heading home to Miami.
The Seattle Seahawks will be somewhat revamping the bottom-end of their cornerback depth chart.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that veteran cornerback and University of Miami alum Artie Burns has agreed to a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. The money has not yet been disclosed but thankfully Schefter told us which agents were involved.
Former Seahawks free-agent CB Artie Burns reached agreement today on a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Burns is a former first-round pick from the University of Miami, where he was born and raised. Now, a homecoming.

Burns was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2016. His days with the Steelers didn’t go particularly well, and his time with the Chicago Bears saw him tear his ACL in 2020 before appearing in 11 games (with six starts) in 2021.
After his brief stay in Chicago, Burns joined the Seahawks in 2022 on the first of three one-year contracts. He sparingly played in his first year with Seattle but found himself playing 14 games in 2023 as a reserve nickel corner and a special teams contributor. Burns re-upped in 2024 and, just like 2023, was initially cut in preseason, only to be brought back via the practice squad and eventually promoted onto the active roster. Injuries sidelined Burns for much of the season and even when healthy he only played four games and 106 total snaps.
There seems to be something about former Seahawks that the Dolphins absolutely love. Last week they signed tight end Pharaoh Brown after Brown’s one-year stint in Seattle. They also signed linebacker Jordyn Brooks in a high-profile move last offseason, as well as signed (and retained) wide receiver Dee Eskridge, and just re-signed linebacker Tyrel Dodson to a two-year contract after claiming him off waivers. Miami’s coaching staff also includes former Seahawks OC and current Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell, plus ex-players turned assistants DeShawn Shead and Lemuel Jeanpierre.
