It’s been several years since the Seahawks have traded back in the first round, but in the lead up to the draft there is at least one report John Schneider has Seattle looking to move back.
For years one of the things everyone knew about the Seattle Seahawks is that when they came on the clock in the first round, they’d be looking to trade back.
They moved back in 2012 to pick Bruce Irvin. They moved back twice in 2014 before selecting Paul Richardson. They traded back in 2016 ahead of selecting Germain Ifedi, 2017 before adding Malik McDowell, 2018 before taking Rashaad Penny and 2019 before selecting L.J. Collier.
But 2019 was the last time Seattle has traded back in the first round, having stayed and made their pick each time they’ve come on the clock in the first round in the five drafts since. However, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Seahawks are among teams looking to move back in the first round.
Many mock drafts have Michigan DT Mason Graham to the Jaguars at No. 5 overall. But as the great Lee Corso says: “Not so fast, my friends.”
As one league executive said recently, “Jacksonville is a wild card — watch.”

In addition to the reports that Schneider could be looking to move down, Schefter also adds to the reports from late last week that Seattle could be looking to trade away Sam Howell after trading for him barely a year ago. Per Schefter, accomplishing that would open up a spot for the team to potentially draft a quarterback for the first time since selecting Alex McGough in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
And now it’s just a matter of waiting until Thursday.
