Tyler Shough has risen up the ranks as a potential Day 2 option.
With over a month to go before the NFL Draft, we’re getting some information on pre-draft visits around the league, including for the Seattle Seahawks.
Even with Sam Darnold now slated to be the Seahawks’ newest starting quarterback, there’s every bit the chance that John Schneider will draft only his third quarterback since becoming Seahawks general manager in 2010. One name to watch is Louisville’s Tyler Shough, who’s slated to have an official 30 visit with the Seahawks according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson.
The Seahawks have a 30 visit lined up with Louisville QB Tyler Shough, I’m told. Shough, 25, also played for Oregon and Texas Tech during a seven-year college career. @FieldYates, @MelKiperESPN and Scouts Inc. rank him the No. 4 QB in this year’s draft.

There’s no way around discussing Shough (pronounced ‘Shuck’) without discussing his age. He’s 25 years old right now and will be 26 before the next NFL regular season begins. That is not quite Brandon Weeden territory but that’s is unusually old for a top draft prospect. Between injuries and the extra eligibility gained due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shough stuck around for a good while in college.
Here’s a snipper of what NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said when Field Gulls asked him about potential QB prospects for the Seahawks. He even cited Shough as someone worth “taking a flyer on” in the third round.
“He can drive the ball. He is big and strong. He’s another one who can get to No. 3 in the progression. He can throw off balance. He has a lot of arm talent. There’s a lot to like there. One of the things with him is just pocket awareness stuff. He bails too much instead of just sliding, shuffling, and finding space within the pocket, but he’s a big, strong dude.”
In his final season at Louisville, Shough threw for 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions and over 3,100 passing yards in 12 games on what was far from a stacked Cardinals squad. Louisville’s offense was heavy on play action passing, which could suit him well in the NFL depending on which team drafts him.
An official 30 visit means Shough gets to be brought into the team facilities for an interview and a physical. That does not mean Shough will be drafted by the Seahawks, but any 30 visit should be monitored for potential draft clues. Outside of Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Jaxson Dart, Shough has seemingly turned his impressive Senior Bowl and NFL Combine showings into being sort of the “best of the rest” among the rest of the QB prospects.
