Who would you want to take a flyer on as a potential franchise quarterback?
Let’s talk quarterbacks.
Whether or not Geno Smith is still with the Seattle Seahawks for the 2025 season, he’ll be 35 during the season and even the most fervent Smith supporter surely knows that he’s not here to be the QB for much longer. It’s not a diss of Smith; it’s an acknowledgement of the typical aging curve for an NFL athlete. Even if we pretended that the Seahawks had kept Russell Wilson all of these seasons, we’d be having a conversation about the next franchise QB either way.
Supposedly, the 2025 draft class is not the best for quarterbacks. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are considered the top two in the class, then it gets murkier from there. Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart has seemingly risen up the boards and is getting first round hype.
“Of the scouts I have talked to, there are some that have Jaxson Dart as a legitimate QB 2.”

The other big names include Ohio State national champion Will Howard, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard, and now we’re getting some buzz for Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough.
Got to see @LouisvilleFB QB Tyler Shough play live/called his games 2x in ‘24.
Talked with Jeff and Brian Brohm about him.
Talked with the young man.
Studied his tape…, where he consistently made nothing but #NFL caliber throws. And he did that the last two days in practice in…— Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN) January 30, 2025
With all due respect to Riddick and Todd McShay, I’m aware of the Senior Bowl/Shrine Bowl hype that can eventually fizzle. Malik Willis was getting first round talk after playing in the Senior Bowl and dropped to the third in a terrible draft class. I am not a wholesale buyer into January stock inflation.
That isn’t to say that there aren’t a lot of quarterbacks available outside of Round 1. I haven’t even mentioned Syracuse’s Kyle McCord or Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel among the other notable names.
I’d say enough of the Field Gulls community has watched some college football this year. This is your space to tell us who you’d want the Seahawks to draft at quarterback. I am not saying that he has to start as a rookie; he just has to be someone you view as a potential starter whether he’s sitting on the bench in 2025 or getting thrown into action right away.
Discuss away on this final day of January!
