Defense is BACK!
At long last, the day has finally arrived! The Denver Broncos came to town to take on our Seattle Seahawks in the highly anticipated debut of new head coach Mike Macdonald.
The Broncos won the coin toss and elected to defer, meaning we’d see offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s offense led by Geno Smith take first. Things… didn’t go according to plan. Geno was sacked on the first play, and would get hit from behind as he threw on the following play, resulting in an ugly interception. The defense stepped up and held Denver to a field goal. The offensive performance for the rest of first half should be left in the past and never discussed again. There was, however, one bright moment from the offense, as Geno decided to take it himself and ran for a career-long 34 yards to get Seattle their first touchdown of the new campaign.
After the interception, Seattle’s defense holds Denver to a field goal.

Nice start to his #Seahawks career for Rashawn Jenkins. Had a TD-saving tackle on first drive, then makes the third-down tackle on Denver’s next drive.

RG Anthony Bradford limped off during that series and appeared to be in pain as he went into the injury tent. Rookie Christian Haynes replaced him. Seahawks punted after another possession that went nowhere. Included a hold on Bradford, Seattle’s second penalty in three drives.

This is a very frustrating game to watch. Not entirely unexpected growing pains but I expected the Oline to be better than this. Time to spam 12 personnel.

Hey look an under center run, what a concept

Whatever was said in the locker room at halftime clearly worked. The defense forced a quick 3-and-out, and the offense, lead by Kenneth Walker III, ran the ball down down the Broncos’ throats, resulting in a touchdown and claiming Seattle’s first lead of the day. On the Bronco’s next drive, a blue blur named K’Von Wallace forced a massive fumble that was recovered by Jerome Baker. A second Kenneth Walker III touchdown would be negated by a holding penalty, and the Seahawks would have to settle for 3 points off the leg of Jason Myers.
that dive was so extra and i loved it https://t.co/rZpJQ68su1

SEAHAWKS WITH THE FUMBLE RECOVERY

Seahawks will have to settle for a field goal after Walker can’t hang onto third down pass. Probably wasn’t getting past the marker on that play anyway.
Myers is good from 28 and #Seahawks increase lead to 19-13.

Tyler Lockett is such an incredible security blanket as a WR

Set up by yet another stingy defensive series, Geno Smith and the offense got rolling again, closing the 3rd quarter in Bronco territory. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Geno found a wide open Zach Charbonnet up the sideline for another Seahawks touchdown. A lot more Seahawks defense was put on display for the rest of the game, including a Riq Woolen interception. The refs dropped the ball on the final Broncos drive, missing an obvious holding penalty as Leonard Williams was bear-hugged while Bo Nix scrambled up the side line for his biggest play of the day. A few plays later, Nix escaped a sack and threw himself into the endzone for the first Broncos touchdown of the new season, highlighting the first real defensive mishap of the game for Seattle.
The following drive came down to a 3rd and 6, but Geno found the ever-reliable Tyler Lockett who pulled the ball in with one hand and stumbled past the first-down marker, putting the game on ice. After a rough start, the Seahawks offense ended the game in victory formation, defeating the Broncos 26-20.
Denver just forgot Zach Charbonnet was running down the sidelines and Geno Smith waited calmly in pocket for him to break fully open and hits him down the right side for an easy TD. Seattle now up 26-13 with 14:54 to play and has taken full control of this one.

This #Seahawks defense has me positively giddy. It’s like night and day from last year. Their open field tackling is light years better.

New to the NFL this year, replay assist does its job, leading to official picking up a flag for roughing the passer.

The Seahawks hang on for a 26-20 win over Denver in Mike Macdonald’s debut. They overcame some early mistakes as well as the loss of RT George Fant, potentially a big blow to their O-lie. They allowed a ton of pressure in the first half then took control with their run game.

The Seahawks travel to Foxboro, Massachusetts next week to go to war against a New England Patriots team, who beat the Cincinnati Bengals earlier today to secure Jerod Mayo’s first win as a head coach. Only one rookie head coach will get his second win next week, and after seeing the Seahawks’ defensive performance today, I’m liking Mike Macdonald’s chances.
