Schottenheimer, who has been with Dallas for the last three seasons, served as Seattle’s offensive coordinator under Pete Carroll from 2018-2020.
As the offseason moves forward for the Seattle Seahawks, so does their search for a new offensive coordinator. So far, Hank Fraley and Klint Kubiak have emerged as a few potential candidates to replace the departed Ryan Grubb.
During Seattle’s search for a new offensive play-caller, one of their former OCs has reportedly found himself nearing a deal to become a head coach. Brian Schottenheimer, who served as the Seahawks’ OC from 2018-2020, could be nearing a deal to become the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Following his departure from Seattle, Schottenheimer spent a year with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their passing game coordinator before landing in Dallas in 2022. There, Schottenheimer was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023, where he has been working under head coach Mike McCarthy.
After a disappointing 7-10 campaign, the Cowboys allowed McCarthy’s contract to expire after five seasons. However, it appears as though they may have found his replacement in house.
Talks are continuing with Brian Schottenheimer regarding the Cowboys’ head coaching opening, according to sources. Schottenheimer interviewed for about four hours on Tuesday.

As reported by RJ Ochoa of Blogging The Boys, Schottenheimer is the first candidate to be receiving a second interview for Dallas’s HC vacancy.
If he gets the job, Schottenheimer would be the added to the long-running list of former Pete Carroll assistants to become head coaches at the NFL level. Among these former assistants are Washington Commanders HC Dan Quinn and Carolina Panthers HC Dave Canales, the latter of whom was a Carroll assistant for 13 of his 14 seasons with the Seahawks (and Carroll’s final year at USC in 2009).
