You asked, I answered! Let’s talk Seattle Seahawks draft!
Happy NFL Draft day, everyone!
Earlier this week I requested some questions in our comments section for me to answer in our special Seattle Seahawks draft edition of the Field Gulls Mailbag. You delivered a lot of goodies on short notice, so let’s get to it!
Riles206 – Centers and guards in the first round
I wouldn’t take a center early-ish other than Jared Wilson. Grey Zabel is probably a guard. This is not a deep center class and therefore Wilson has almost no shot at being taken in the first round. Guard is tricky because it’s not a high-value position in Round 1 but the Seahawks need them. If there are great skill position players on offense who are available when Seattle is on the Round 1 clock, gimme the skill position player and focus on guard in Round 2. I’m not even against using the two seconds to move up to take Donovan Jackson if it comes down to that.
Crossed_Up – More guard talk
Never say never. The Seahawks didn’t take cornerbacks early until they did.
Sideshow Bob – Day 2 trades?
I anticipate at least one trade in Day 2. If they’re not packaging picks to trade up, they’re trading down to load up on more Day 2 picks or the early portion of Day 3.
Seahawksdroog – Top 5 talented players who should make it to No. 18
“Should make it to 18” is a bit of a loaded question because after about pick 11 or 12 I think it’s all up for speculation.
I’d say (in no particular order) Jihaad Campbell of Alabama, Colston Loveland of Michigan, Tyler Booker of Alabama, Emeka Egbuka of Ohio State, and Malaki Starks of Georgia. Only Loveland is iffy for me in terms of being there at No. 18 but everyone else I’m sure will still be on the board. He could be a special tight end in a different way than Tyler Warren. I like Starks over Emmanwori at safety but I can understand how Emmanwori is getting a lot of play due to his physical traits. Campbell is someone I’d personally be hesitant to take for injury reasons and I’d rather see Seattle invest in offense early. People are sleeping on Egbuka because of Golden and MacMillan. Booker is still be one of the best pure guards in the draft to me, it’s just a matter of scheme fit. He may not fit the Seahawks as well as he’d fit more power and gap-based schemes.
ArcticFoxWinter – Will Seattle draft a running back?
There have been murmurs about the Seahawks trading one of Kenneth Walker III or Zach Charbonnet. Even if they don’t, Kenny McIntosh and George Holani are not going to stop the Seahawks from taking a running back if they want to. The last time they went consecutive years without a running back drafted was 2010 and 2011, and 2010 comes with the caveat that they made a midseason trade for Marshawn Lynch.
I’m partial to Damien Martinez from Miami as a Day 3 pick. I do not want them to take any running backs on Day 1-2. It’s just a terrible use of resources for Seattle at this given moment. Brashard Smith from SMU, Devin Neal from Kansas, and Jaydon Blue from Texas are other Day 3 options I like. Ultimately, I see Seattle taking a back because this class is just too deep not to.
ArcticFoxWinter – What would be a crazy pick at 18?
Crazy in what sense? Someone falling to 18 unexpectedly or the Seahawks taking someone no one had them taking? Omarion Hampton at 18 would have steam coming out of my ears if they draft a running back. I’d also not be a fan of Jaxson Dart at No. 18 and he’s seemingly in line to be a Round 1 pick.
Worsted Yard – Have sims ruined draft discussion?
Not at all. It’s one of the few enduring games from Electronic Arts.
DarthCosmic – Picks in 2026
Preference? Yes. Priority? No. They could load up on some Day 3 picks for 2026 with Day 3 trade downs, too. It’s not really a big deal at the moment considering they have their native 1st-5th next year.
SpokaneNHeard – What’s the most likely Seahawks draft scenario at 18?
Ranking them in order:
1.) Trade down into the 20s. Add themselves another Day 2 pick and they can be really aggressive on Friday. I think if the board falls in a way they don’t like (which I suspect is what will happen) then they’re trading down.
2.) Staying put at 18. Hey, they’ve done it the last five years so I won’t dismiss the idea that they stick and pick.
3) Big trade down to the top of the 2nd. If that happens then there needs to be next year’s first attached to that as far as I’m concerned. Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft suggested the Seahawks trade from 18 to 34 with the New York Giants and I’d only be up for that if it meant they got next year’s FRP.
OLYROB – Drafting Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Yeah it was great. You know what’s even greater? That the Seahawks didn’t take Quentin Johnston with the next pick like the Los Angeles Chargers did. I’m no draft expert but I am so glad he wasn’t the choice.
Thanks for all of your questions! See you around for the draft!
