Drew Lock led the Giants to their only home win of the season at a time when some fans wanted to lose out.
While Seattle Seahawks fans were fretting over what was an eventual season-ending set of Week 17 results, many New York Giants fans were hopeful that their 10-game losing streak would extend to 11 (and eventually 12) on their way to the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Enter Drew Lock.
Yes, former Seahawks backup quarterback Drew Lock, who’d provided barely any semblance of a functioning offense in his previous three starts as Giants QB, had the game of his life against an Indianapolis Colts team in need of a win in order to stay alive in the playoff hunt.
Lock threw for over 300 yards, 4 touchdown passes (tying a career-high), and rushed for what was essentially the game-sealing in touchdown in the Giants’ stunning 45-33 upset win. It was New York’s first win at MetLife Stadium all season, and the Colts are now out of the playoffs. This may cost former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley his job as the Colts DC.

Would you believe that Lock is the first QB in Giants history to have 300+ yards passing, 4+ passing touchdowns, and at least 1 rushing touchdown in a game? Yeah, he just did that.
It was a personally terrific day for Lock after some rough performances against the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, but that’s not the real story. The Giants entered Sunday with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and now find themselves down at No. 4.
While Giants fans at MetLife Stadium might have been thrilled to see an entertaining game, let alone a win, there was uh… some desire to keep the eyes on the draft prize.
We can’t even tank right . I’m in HELL https://t.co/HiqpCaCegG

Thanks but what if you’re not on the team next year and I’m a fan for the next 40 years of my life and we have no QB?

Jermaine we need a quarterback.
Not to say I don’t love what you do out there man and congrats on the win. But we’re in franchise QB hell for another year now.

More pathetic than the 2015-2019 Knicks era at least we tanked correctly for two seasons https://t.co/TBzwj3Z7UM

Joe Schoen is going to trade a haul of picks for a QB and ruin the next 2 drafts. What a waste of a win. https://t.co/qTC7ToVKfq

It could always be worse, Seahawks fans. You could be cheering for a bevy of losses because our draft system encourages the belief that watching your team lose and be as terrible as possible is actually good. Maybe that’s just my personal distaste for tanking getting in the way. Maybe the Giants can look back at this game like Houston Texans fans might look back at losing the No. 1 pick on the final day of the regular season, only to end up with C.J. Stroud at No. 2.
Anyway, good for Drew! And he plays the Philadelphia Eagles next week so perhaps he’s in for another win to end his season.
