Devon Witherspoon and Julian Love have a homecoming against the Chicago Bears.
The Seattle Seahawks announced their Week 17 game captains for Thursday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, and there’s a local flair to two of their selections.
Cornerback Devon Witherspoon, safety Julian Love, and offensive lineman Charles Cross are all captains for the third time this season. Witherspoon served as captain against the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons, whereas Love had the honors at home against the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals, while Cross was captain for the 49ers and Los Angeles Rams home games.
From a local perspective, it’s not surprising to see Witherspoon and Love as game captains. Witherspoon starred as an All-American corner at the University of Illinois in Champaign. This is his first game as a professional in the state of Illinois.
Love was born in Westchester, Illinois and graduated high school in La Grange Park, not too far from the city of Chicago. He played his college football at Notre Dame in Indiana, and it’s hardly a trek to go from Chicago to South Bend. Love previously played at Soldier Field three times with the New York Giants, all ending in losses. Hopefully he can finally experience winning a game in Chicago later this evening.
