It’s Penn State and Notre Dame for the right to play in the National Championship in Atlanta.
And then there were four.
The first of two semifinals for the College Football Playoff is upon us. Penn State has taken apart SMU and Boise State, while Notre Dame cruised past Indiana and shut down Georgia. The Nittany Lions and the Fighting Irish will play for a spot in the National Championship Game, which is Jan. 20 in Atlanta. Ohio State and Texas will be in the Friday semifinal in Arlington.
There’s plenty of NFL talent on display, although for Seattle Seahawks fans itching for a young quarterback, there is perhaps some disappointment that Penn State’s Drew Allar is currently intending to stay in college for another season. Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard is a senior and will be in this year’s NFL Draft, but he’s not nearly as heralded as a potential high draft pick. There are also defensive stars like Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter and Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts to watch.
ESPN has the broadcast at 4:30 pm PT live from Miami.
