Did you know there used to be a team called the Miami Seahawks back in the 1940s? Maybe that’s what the Dolphins are doing by acquiring all of these Seattle players.
In “anything is worth writing about in this stage of the offseason” news, one of the two players the Seattle Seahawks just waived has found a new team.
Former Oregon State cornerback Ryan ‘Bump’ Cooper Jr, who was part of the Seahawks practice squad and signed to a reserve/futures contract last month, has been claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins.
Cooper was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2024, playing six special teams snaps in one game against the Cleveland Browns. He was let go midseason and joined Seattle’s practice squad in November. Cooper never appeared in any games for the Seahawks and was never even a gameday elevation.
It appears as if the Dolphins like to keep an eye on which players the Seahawks part ways with. The Dolphins signed linebacker Jordyn Brooks in free agency, claimed Tyrel Dodson off waivers when Dodson was let go in the middle of the season, and added wide receiver Dee Eskridge to the practice squad (before signing him to the active roster) after the Seahawks let him go in preseason roster cuts. Miami also poached pass rusher Tyus Bowser off Seattle’s practice squad last October.
Oh, and did I mention that Miami’s coaching staff includes former Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell (quarterbacks coach/pass game coordinator), offensive lineman Lemuel Jeanpierre (assistant offensive line coach), and defensive back DeShawn Shead (assistant defensive backs coach)?
Clearly this is an effort to revive the Miami Seahawks, who lasted one season in the All-American Football Conference back in 1946.
