The Seattle Seahawks shocked the rest of the NFL this Wednesday, announcing that Pete Carroll is out as their head coach.
“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor,” Seahawks owner Jody Allen said. “Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community.”
Carroll was the head coach of the Seahawks for 14 seasons. The franchise won 137 games and made the playoffs 10 times during that stretch.
Even though Carroll is expected to be an advisor for the Seahawks, we still think he can be a head coach in the NFL. In fact, there are three teams that would benefit from hiring him.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons might want to add an offensive-minded coach who can maximize Bijan Robinson’s potential, but they should prioritize bringing in a coach capable of establishing a winning culture. Pete Carroll would do that the day he enters the building.
While the quarterback situation in Atlanta is concerning, Carroll has proven that he’s all about winning with a stable signal-caller. He doesn’t need a superstar under center.
Los Angeles Chargers
If the Chargers want to immediately change the direction of their franchise, they should give Pete Carroll a call.
Not only would Carroll get the best out of their defensive talent, he’d give the franchise a true leader. That’s something they lacked when Brandon Staley was at the helm.
New York Jets
The Jets have already said they’re committed to Robert Saleh for the 2024 season. However, it’s never too late to make a change.
For starters, Carroll has the personality to handle a polarizing figure like Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. He also knows a thing or two about coaching in New York considering he led the Jets in 1994.
This marriage probably won’t happen, but it would be fun to see Carroll coaching the Jets this fall.
