Ernest Jones, Seattle Seahawks, Agree to Contract
Jones bounced around throughout the final year of his contract. Entering the offseason with the Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay’s squad traded him to Tennessee just before the season. He played well with the Titans, recording 44 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and one quarterback hits in six games. However, with the season lost, Tennessee decided to trade him to the Seattle Seahawks as they made a push for the playoffs. The linebacker started 10 games for the club, recording 94 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, two quarterback hits, and one interception while on the field. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t enough to get the team into the postseason.
Ernest Jones originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the Los Angeles Rams, the South Carolina product started his career on a promising note. Appearing in 15 games while making seven starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with two interceptions, one sack, 61 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and three quarterback hits. With his help, Los Angeles won the Super Bowl after narrowly beating Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
The linebacker built on that promising debut season with an even better 2022. While the Rams themselves struggled, Jones finished the season with 114 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, one quarterback hit, and one interception. One year later, Jones set career highs in sacks (4.5), tackles (145), tackles-for-loss (14) and quarterback hits (six) while helping the Rams make an unlikely run to the playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost in the first round to the Detroit Lions.
Since signing his rookie contract, Ernest Jones has appeared in 48 games while making 63 starts. While on the field, the linebacker has recorded six sacks, four interceptions, 458 tackles, and 23 tackles-for-loss.
