The Cougs still need four games to fill out their football schedule next season before full Pac-12 play begins again in 2026.
Slowly but surely, the Washington State Cougars are filling out their 2025 football schedule. Today, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs announced they’d agreed to travel to Pullman for a game on Nov. 15, 2025. The Bulldogs are foregoing the front end of a home-and-home with the Tulsa Hurricanes to make the trip. This will also be the first time the Bulldogs and Cougs have ever played each other.
With the dissolution of the scheduling agreement with the Mountain West Conference, WSU is going to need to work hard to continue to round out their schedule. The Ole Miss Rebels fell straight into their lap when the Wake Forest Demon Deacons cancelled the second game of their series but they won’t get so lucky with the other four games they need. It will likely require teams, like La Tech, being willing to move previously scheduled games for a chance to play WSU or finding willing partners with open slots on the schedule (more on that below).
Here’s what the 2025 football schedule looks like so far:
- 8/30 – vs. Idaho Vandals
- 9/06 – vs. San Diego State Aztecs
- 9/13 – at North Texas Mean Green
- 9/20 – vs. Washington Huskies
- 9/27 – at Virginia Cavaliers
- 10/11 – at Ole Miss Rebels
- 11/15 – vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
- TBA – vs. Oregon St. Beavers
In an ideal world, you have a bye between two long road trips to Charlottesville and Oxford, though Wazzu may not be afforded the luxury given how they’re having to construct this. You’d also want two more home games to avoid only six home games for the third straight year but, again, you can’t be super choosey here.
If we had to guess on a date for the Oregon State game, it would be Nov. 22nd. It avoids the last weekend of the month when all the massive rivalry games are played and that weekend prior to Thanksgiving is usually bereft of notable match-ups, leaving it largely to WSU and OSU to fill the void viewership wise.
You can cross a few teams off this list of who just needs games but the ones that jump out to me are the Stanford Cardinal (home game needed, former Pac-12 member, easy trip), Connecticut Huskies (six home games already), Northwestern Wildcats (need two games, five game home conference schedule next year) and the SMU Mustangs (home game needed). This is obviously easier said than done as you need two to tango here but, at the very least, the 2025 slate should be an interesting one from a “hey, we’ve never played them before!” standpoint.
