College football is back!
And just like that, the 2024 college football season has commenced. College GameDay is live from Dublin, Ireland, and football fans finally have something to watch on their Saturdays. There are seven games today, with Florida State and Georgia Tech playing on the Emerald Isle being the highlight.
But there are two WSU opponents playing today, if you’d like to get going on some early scouting work. New Mexico hosts FCS Montana State at 1 p.m. PT on FS1, and the Lobos find themselves 13.5-point underdogs. Montana State has been among the top 5 or 10 teams in the FCS the past few seasons, but I am still shocked by how much better some of those FCS teams are compared to their FBS counterparts.
If you’re into staying up real late, Hawaii hosts Delaware State tonight at 9 p.m. PT and it does not appear the game is nationally televised (so why would you stay up late? Go to bed!). The Rainbow Warriors are more than 40 point favorites (!) to open the season.
WSU hosts Hawaii on Oct. 19 and travels to New Mexico on Nov. 16. Today will give us just a small glimpse of what’s to come later this season.
Speaking of our Cougs, school has started, practices are now in the afternoons, and we’re a day away from game week. We know who’s starting at quarterback and probably have a good idea of the other starters, but we’ll soon get the season’s first depth chart as WSU prepares to open the season at home on Aug. 31 against Portland State.
Your Saturdays for the next four-plus months will now be occupied by college football. Rejoice and be glad!
