Pulling a look out of the vault that hasn’t been seen in five years.
WSU will begin their final three-game stretch of the season after their second bye week by heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico to face off with the New Mexico Lobos. For the first of their last two away games, WSU will roll with the timeless gray/white/gray uniform combo complete with a white decal and facemask on the helmet.

I was surprised to see this exact combo has only been worn twice since the 2017 refresh and hasn’t been worn in five years. The only two games WSU rocked this look were the 2017 Apple Cup and at Oregon in 2019, both losses. The helmet only appeared once last season in that very forgettable loss against Stanford.
The “ghost” helmet debuted in 2016 at Stanford in a win while wearing the gray/white/gray combo, the only other time WSU wore this combo. In total, WSU is 2-3 since 2015 in this helmet. The other game not mentioned before happened to also be against Stanford in 2021.
Gray/white/gray combo, regardless of helmet, has been worn two other times, once at Wisconsin in 2022 and last year with the script helmets in the 2023 Apple Cup.
Entering this game, the white jersey is 17-24 all-time since 2017, while the gray pants will make their fourth appearance on the season, boasting a 3-0 record this season and a 12-5 record since 2017.
