Painting Seattle crimson…and white.
Happy Apple Cup week, Coug fans.
It’s hard to believe that it’s already rivalry week in the Evergreen State. It feels like the season started just a week and a half ago. Before you settle in for your Thanksgiving meal tomorrow, the Washington State Cougars unveiled their look for this years Apple Cup in Seattle.

The mantra WSU has rolled out to promote this years rivalry game has been “Paint Seattle Crimson”. As the designated away team, WSU couldn’t rock an all-crimson look to match the mantra and instead had to get as close as they could with crimson-white-crimson.
This was a combo worn a lot on the road after debuting the crimson helmets back in 2000, but has only been worn twice since the 2017 uniform refresh. Now the crimson shell, white jersey, crimson pants has itself been worn five times, three of the five times it was worn with a crimson facemask.
The only two times we have seen this combination was in 2017 Holiday Bowl against Michigan State and in an empty coliseum at USC in 2020. Both being blowout losses. On a more positive note, it’s relative, the crimson facemask look, also started 0-2 before grabbing its first win at Colorado State to open last season.
The individual numbers for each uniform piece also haven’t performed too well. The crimson helmet with white facemask is a mediocre 3-6 after picking up a win last week and white jerseys are 14-23. However, crimson pants are above .500 after also picking up a win last week to improve to 15-12.
As a piece of trivia to leave you with, when’s the last time WSU wore the same helmet in back-to-back weeks? What about same helmet and pants?
