It’s almost that time!
When it comes to watching Cougar football, there’s no shortage of fun ways to get in on the action, whether you’re taking in the electric atmosphere of Martin Stadium or gathering with friends to hyperfixate on every play from the comfort of your living room. Each game day experience offers its own unique flavor of Coug pride, and I’m here today to suggest some of my favorite choices for enjoying a game of Cougar football, whether you’re cheering remotely or within God’s Country itself.
1. In Person / At Martin Stadium
Duh. When the Cougs are at home, there’s nothing quite like the roar of the crowd at Martin Stadium. The atmosphere is truly unique, and watching the game in person means feeling the palpable excitement that only comes from being surrounded by a sea of crimson and gray. The energy is electric, the cheers are contagious, and the chance to high-five Butch T. Cougar in the flesh? Priceless. Plus, you can’t beat the smell of crisp fall air (and maybe some Fireball residue) with the satisfaction of knowing you’re part of something bigger—a community that’s all about Coug pride.
2. At a Coug Bar / Official Alumni Association Watch Party
If you can’t make it to the stadium, the next best thing is finding your local Coug bar or an official WSU Alumni Association watch party. These places are like a mini Martin Stadium away from Martin Stadium. The camaraderie is strong, the beer is flowing, and everyone is united in their mission: cheering the Cougs to victory. You’ll find yourself shouting at the screen with fellow alumni like you’ve known them for years—because in a way, you have. Go Cougs!
3. At a Bar in Pullman
When the Cougars are on the road, Pullman transforms into the epicenter of game day excitement. From bars packed with crimson to music bumping on Greek row, There’s something special about watching an away game in a Pullman bar—at the heart of Cougar Nation. These bars are filled with locals, students, and die-hard fans who bleed crimson. The atmosphere is relaxed yet charged with anticipation. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than bonding over a shared love of the Cougs with a cold pint in hand. Plus, if all else fails and the team doesn’t pull out the win, you have a whole bunch of new friends to commiserate with! Fun times.
4. Camping / Tailgating
For the adventurous Coug fan, camping or tailgating offers a unique way to combine the great outdoors with game day festivities. Set up camp in Pullman or at a scenic spot with good reception, and you’ve got the best of both worlds. Grill some burgers, crack open a cold one, and enjoy the game while lounging in a beautiful place. Relaxing in nature mixed with the familiar sights and sounds of Cougar football? Elite, in my humble opinion.
5. Home Watch Party with Friends / Family
Sometimes, the best place to watch the Cougs is right at home with your nearest and dearest. A home watch party allows for maximum comfort—no lines for the bathroom, a couch that’s perfectly broken in, and an unlimited booze supply (Did someone say halftime shots?) Plus, you can even introduce the next generation to the beauty of Cougar football. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a full-blown party, the magic of Coug football can easily fill your living room with the same energy you’d find at the stadium.
No matter where you are, watching Cougar football is all about embracing the spirit of the game and enjoying the camaraderie that comes with it. So grab your gear, pick your spot, and get ready to cheer the Cougs to victory this season!
