Can’t wait to cheer ‘em on!
Good evening, Coug fans!
As summer approaches, it’s only natural to start immediately start dreaming of fall sports, right? Right?!
If it’s wrong, don’t correct me.
I’ve got Washington State Volleyball on the mind, specifically, as they also took a dive into the transfer pool. And while I’m getting excited for the promise of another excellent season, I also can’t help but be curious about who the heck we’ll be rooting for!
So let’s look, shall we?
They kicked things off with a new head coach back in January, who we talked about here!
Then, coach Kristin Watson joined the team!
Landed a rising star to round out our 2024 coaching staff. Welcome to Cougar volleyball, @kristinwats ‼️

The 2024 signing class kicked off with Jaden Walz! She heads to WSU from Bowling Green University in Ohio, where she was a senior setter. If you want to take a look at her Hudl from 2019, here is the link! According to the BGU website (not sure if that’s how Bowling Green does their acronym, feel free to correct me!) as of 2023, she has two more years of eligibility.

Welcoming our newest setter to the Palouse! We can’t wait to see Jaden in Bohler this fall. Congrats, Jaden!#GoCougs #CougsVsEverybody pic.twitter.com/IHlrnNuTdX

Up next, they brought Sage Brustad in- an outside hitter heading down from Eastern Washington University.
Brustad earned two back to back All-Big Sky selections the past two seasons, and led the team in both kills and sets. She’s originally from Richland, Washington- and we’re happy to keep her in her home state!

The Cougar coaches hit late March/April in stride, and signed a few new friends, starting with Italia Bernal. A setter, who will fill that absence that Argentina Ung had previously looked to hold. She shined at the U19 World Championships, and you can check out a little information on the tournaments she’s played in here.

Adding to a long line of international players at WSU ‼️ Italia was a standout for Mexico at the 2023 U19 World Championships. Welcome to Cougar volleyball, Italia!#GoCougs x #CVE pic.twitter.com/WJ5ecfmQzy

Up next, a Midwesterner (which brings my heart joy) out of the Chicago burbs- Breccan Scheck! She’s got a Hudl too, linked here, and will join the team as a middle blocker.

Happy to announce another Future Coug! ♥️ Our newest middle will join us from the Midwest later this Fall!#GoCougs #CVE pic.twitter.com/yVNE6zRgX9

On May 29th, another player from the neighborhood made the switch to Wazzu. Taryn Vrieling transfers over as a junior outside hitter who led her team in kills (219), points (240.5), kills per set (2.77), and points per set (3.04) in 2023.

On the same day, Washington State also nabbed transfer middle blocker, also from University of Idaho, Jade Warren! Glad they can carpool! Warren is a graduate transfer who finished the 2023 season with 124 total blocks (25 of which were solo blocks, 99 assisted) and 256 kills.

And now we’re all caught up, as of 4:49pm on Friday, May 31st when I finish writing this! I feel transparency is important.
I hope everyone has an excellent weekend filled with Ol’ Crimson legendary Lager (if you got your hands on some) and dreams of an exciting upcoming fall sports season. I know that’s how I’ll spend my weekend- minus the Lager, unless someone wants to teleport some over.
Go Cougs!
