The Cougar Keeper had a massive bounce-back week
Washington State senior goal keeper Nadia Cooper was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The conference announced the award on Monday following a shutout performance in the net last weekend. This is the second time she has been named to a conference award this season after she also took home the award on August 26th.
Cooper held #7 Utah State scoreless for the first time this year. The Aggies, who came into the game with an 8-0 record, had scored 29 goals to begin the season. They added another 3 goals on Sunday in a 3-1 win over Grand Canyon to bring their record to 9-0-1. While the offense couldn’t get anything through the Aggies goal keeper, a 0-0 tie is a step in the right direction for where this team can go.
Cooper had a massive bounce-back week after allowing 4-goals to Georgia the Sunday prior. The shutout is her 3rd this season and 17th of her career. It is the first time the Cougs have shut out a top-10 opponent since 2021 when Cooper and the rest of the Cougs shut out #5 USC.
The Cougs have been off to a slow start this year and currently sit at 3-3-3. Their 3 losses came against Purdue, #2 Stanford, and Georgia and outside of the 4-1 loss to Georgia, they have not allowed a team to put up more than 2 goals. Cooper has been a massive part in keeping them in games while the offense has yet to find that stride they normally have.
Cooper and the Cougs will be looking to build on the success this weekend when they host San Diego for their first WCC matchup of the year.
