The two seniors were the Cougars’ representatives this year
Former Washington State Seniors Brennan Jackson and Charlisse Leger-Walker were named Pac-12 Tom Hansen Conference Medal winners on Monday. The medal is given to two seniors from each school in the conference annually. The medal is given to those student athletes who show a great combination of performance and achievement in athletics and leadership.
Jackson, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, has proven time and time again that he is not only a great athlete on the field, but an even better person off the field. Shortly after getting drafted, Jackson shared a picture on twitter of a letter from a young fan who asked for an autograph on a picture he sent. Jackson kept the letter and opened it after he got drafted, wrote the fan a message, and got the letter back to him.
While this may seem like a small gesture in the overall scheme of things, Jackson has done things like this his entire career at Washington State and will definitely continue them in the NFL. I also feel as if I don’t need to go too much into detail on his success on the field as we all know what kind of animal he was for the Cougs. The combination of him and RJ Stone is unlike any other we have seen.
Leger-Walker, who recently announced her transfer to UCLA, was a massive piece in getting the Cougs notoriety in the women’s tournaments. Her name is littered throughout the Washington State and Pac-12 record books and could easily be considered as the glue for what held the WSU women’s basketball team together. She moved into the 9th All Time scoring for the school this past season and became just the 9th Coug to score more than 500 points in a single season during her junior year.
Jackson joins Bo Nix (Oregon), Laiatu Latu (UCLA), and Rome Odunze (Washington) as the only medal winners who play football. Leger-Walker joined Jaylyn Sherrod (Colorado) and Cameron Brink (Stanford) as the only women from basketball to win the medal this year. For a complete list of winners, click here.
