
The transfer bug has been hitting the Cougs hard this year
The Washington State women’s basketball season ended just over a week ago and the Cougs have been hit hard with transfers over the past few days. After suspecting to return all but one player, there are now 5 who have opted to enter the portal and test the waters. Astera Tuhina, Dayana Mendes, Candace Kpetikou, Alice Dart, and Jenna Villa have all entered their named since the portal opened on March 24th.
Tuhina is the latest to enter her name as she did so on Monday. Kpetikou, Dart, and Villa all announced over the weekend while Mendes announced last Monday. The starting point guard from Kosovo has started in the past 64 games for the Cougs as well as 4 games her freshman year. She averaged 7.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while playing 31.2 minutes per game and shooting 36.4% from the field this past season.
Mendes started in 9 of her 30 games this year and averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds on the year. The 6’2 freshman forward from Paris, France stepped up this year when injuries hit the Cougs and was looking to build on her success.
Villa averaged 5.6 points per game and 2.5 rebounds in her 35 games played. She started in 29 games as well as a guard averaging 21.6 minutes per game. As a freshman, she played in 36 games while averaging 5.6 points per game and 1.8 rebounds.
Kpetikou started in 7 games while playing in 33 this past year. She averaged 11.1 minutes and 3.4 points per game while bringing in 3.2 rebounds per game and had 25 blocks on the year.
Dart, a freshman from Australia, played in 22 games and averaged 4.9 minutes per game. She averaged 1.4 points per game and 0.6 rebounds on the year.
The portal will stay open until April 22nd as head coach Kamie Ethridge will look to keep the rest of the core of the Cougs to build on their five straight postseason tournament appearanced.
